St Andrews’ pupils marked the 10th anniversary of its annual Mini Triathlon, with the school community coming together for an event featuring returning founder Suzy Connor and a message from Olympic champions

St Andrew's CofE Academy in Buckland Monachorum has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its annual Mini Triathlon.

The event brought together pupils, families, staff and volunteers, with children taking part by running for fun, competing individually or as part of a team.

Former organiser Suzy Connor, who founded the Mini Triathlon, returned to the school to mark the milestone and see how the event has developed over the past decade.

This year's event introduced several new features, including winner buffs for competitors, a new timing app and the debut of the event mascot, Suzy the Monkey.

Pupils also received a video message from Olympic triathlon champions Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, encouraging them to enjoy the event and do their best.

The school thanked volunteers who have supported the Mini Triathlon over the past 10 years, along with local sponsors Devon Coffee Company and Optimum Coaching.

Money raised through coffee sales during the event will be donated to the school's PTFA to support plans for a new library.

Headteacher Debbie Nunn said: "Reaching the 10th anniversary of our Mini Triathlon is a wonderful milestone and a real celebration of everything that makes our school community so special.

“It was fantastic to welcome Suzy Connor back to see how the event she founded has grown and continues to inspire so many children.

"The Mini Triathlon is about so much more than sport. It encourages our children to challenge themselves, support one another and celebrate every achievement, whether they are competing, taking part for fun or cheering on their friends.

Tracey Cleverly, Trust Lead at the Learning Academy Partnership, said the anniversary reflected the commitment of everyone involved in organising the event over the years.

She said: "The St Andrew's Mini Triathlon is a fantastic example of the opportunities our schools create to help children develop confidence and a love of being active.

“Reaching its tenth anniversary is a remarkable achievement and reflects the dedication of everyone who has helped the event grow over the years."

St Andrew's CofE Academy is part of the Learning Academy Partnership, which includes 18 schools across Cornwall, Devon and Torbay.
