Discover Dartmoor folklore at this free Bovey Tracey event tomorrow
A National Trust estate near Bovey Tracey will welcome visitors for an autumn day of storytelling, nature-themed activities and family fun, with no booking required
Families are being invited to enjoy a free autumn-themed event at Parke Estate, near Bovey Tracey, tomorrow (Thursday, October 29).
The Autumn Fun and Folklore Day will take place in the estate’s walled garden from 11am to 3pm, offering a range of nature-inspired activities for the community to enjoy during the half-term holidays.
Visitors can take part in seasonal craft activities, try their hand at the ‘hunt the squash’ game and head to Story Corner to hear tales of Dartmoor folklore.
Storytelling sessions are scheduled for noon and 2pm, with each performance lasting around 20 to 30 minutes.
The event is free to attend and does not require advance booking, making it an opportunity for families to get outdoors and celebrate the changing season in the surroundings of the Parke Estate.
Event organisers said: “This is a fabulous free event for the community, held in the beautiful surroundings of the walled garden on Parke estate.”
The day has been created through a collaboration involving the National Trust, Dartmoor National Park Authority, Dartmoor Preservation Association, Better Places and local wildlife groups.
Organisers say the event will only be cancelled in the case of severe weather, and visitors are advised to dress appropriately for Devon’s autumn conditions.
The walled garden is a short distance from the car park, down a steep tarmacked drive, followed by a gravel slope into the garden.
Anyone with access requirements is encouraged to contact the organisers for assistance.
Parking costs £3 for two hours or £5 for the full day, while National Trust members can park for free.
The estate is also a short walk from Bovey Tracey.
