Rising Star Cellist Rhys Herbert with pianist Rebecca Kelley
An unmissable concert of enchanting music for cello and piano takes place in St Michael the Archangel, Chagford, on Saturday, June 1st.
The dazzling young cellist Rhys Herbert and the pianist Rebecca Kelley will perform an exciting and varied programme of music from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with works by Beethoven, Poulenc, Rachmaninoff, and Sir Edward Elgar, alongside gems from less well-known composers.
The concert has been arranged in partnership with Music in Country Churches (MICC) a charity established in 1989 with the active support of the Prince of Wales, now King Charles. Music in Country Churches makes donations to every church which hosts a concert thanks to the monies raised from ticket sales as well as from the support of many individuals and trusts. Over the years, the charity has visited over sixty churches across England and Wales, and donated more than £600,000. It’s quite a coup for Chagford to be the only church in Devon to host a prestigious MICC concert in 2024.
Each year, MICC offers performance opportunities to the winners of the top prizes awarded by the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Cellist Rhys Herbert won multiple prizes during his time at the College including the Bridgewood and Nietzert Solo Bach Prize, the John Ireland Prize, and the prestigious Concerto Competition. He is rapidly becoming a sought-after performer with concert engagements all over the country.
Premium tickets in the front three rows cost £20 (including pre-concert drinks reception in Chagford’s Jubilee Hall). Central pews cost £15 and side pews £10. Available from musicincountrychurches.org.uk
