The concert includes Last Night of the Proms favourite, Elgar's 'Pomp and Circumstance March no 1'
Music from stage, screen, and popular classics performed by Exeter Symphony Orchestra and friends.
Devon residents are invited to show their support for soldiers of the past, present and future by attending an uplifting fund-raising concert in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund in Exeter Cathedral on Saturday, 14th September.
This promises to be an exceptional evening with music from stage, screen and the classical repertoire. The popular broadcaster and former BBC Radio Devon presenter, David (Fitz) Fitzgerald will be the compère, bringing his well-known warmth and friendly humour. The Exeter Symphony Orchestra (conductor Arturo Serna) will perform Elgar’s heart-achingly beautiful ‘Nimrod’ as well as Last Night of the Proms favourite, the ‘Pomp and Circumstance March No 1’.
Also appearing are renowned guest soloist, Davina Hastings (soprano); Devon-based harpist of international reputation (and Moorlander arts editor!) Elizabeth-Jane Baldry; and concert pianist and Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral, Timothy Noon. Talented young singers from Centre Stage, the award-winning youth theatre company based in Exmouth, will help raise the roof with a selection of tunes from popular shows such as ‘Les Misérables’ and ‘Pirates of Penzance’.
The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) supports soldiers, former soldiers, and their families through life’s challenges – such as bereavement, injury, getting back to work, elderly care, and much more besides. The charity reached over 75,000 people in 2023/24 through its grants for individuals from the Army family and funding for partner charities. This concert will raise vital funds for the ABF in its 80th year. Concert goers will also learn more about the ABF, and the charity’s ambassador, Alix Hale, will share the story of how the charity supported her family when her father died on active service.
Ticket prices range from £10 to £35. There’s also a £65 ticket which includes a VIP reception and reserved seating.
