A South Devon woman who once worked as an Arctic Ranger in Lapland has returned home to lead the outdoor activities programme at Bovey Castle.
Dani Garland, originally from Chudleigh, has joined the five-star Dartmoor hotel as its new Activities Manager. Her appointment follows several winters spent in northern Finland, where she led snowmobile tours and husky sled rides under the Northern Lights. She has also travelled through Australia and Thailand.
“It’s been quite a journey to get here, from working in Lapland with snowmobiles, huskies and the Northern Lights, to travelling through Australia and Thailand, and now returning home to Devon,” she said.
“To now be working in such a beautiful setting such as Bovey Castle and helping guests explore is a real privilege.”
Garland’s role includes a wide range of outdoor pursuits across the estate’s grounds. These include 4x4 off-road driving, archery, clay pigeon shooting, falconry displays, and guided deer park walks where guests can feed the estate’s herd.
She has also reintroduced the Bovey Rangers bushcraft programme for children and expanded seasonal craft workshops such as apple pressing and wreath making.
“What makes Bovey Castle special is the variety – one minute I’m leading 4x4 off-road driving sessions or archery, and the next I’m introducing children to bushcraft or taking families out on deer park walks,” she said.
“Whether guests are here for a luxury break, a family holiday or just a fun day out, there’s something for everyone and it’s great to be able to share that with so many people during their visit here.”
Dean Gunston, General Manager at Bovey Castle, said: “We’re delighted to have Dani as part of the team. She brings a wealth of international experience and a real passion for outdoor adventure.
“The activities programme is such an important part of what makes Bovey Castle unique, and Dani is already playing a key role in helping more guests, families and local residents enjoy everything the estate has to offer.”
