Summer refurb at Simmons Park
Okes defeat Brixham to book trip to Buckland
Okehampton Argyle will continue their FA Cup fairytale with a trip to Western League outfit Buckland Athletic on 19th August.
The Okes progressed to the next stage with a dramatic replay win at Brixham. Goals from Luke Reynolds and Luke Mortimore ensured Argyle would get another crack at the Fishermen after recovering from 2-0 down in the first tie at Simmons Park.
The replay was full of tension on both sides and defences certainly took the plaudits in a goalless 90 minutes, forcing the match into extra-time and the prospect of penalties looming large.
Okehampton finally made the crucial breakthrough on 110 minutes, when Mortimore defied aching limbs to expertly turn his marker in the middle of the pitch and raced through on goal before laying off a perfect pass for Luke Alden to apply the finishing touch.
Brixham were visibly rocked by the goal and victory was confirmed for the Okes just a minute later, Ben Bickle cleverly lofting a sublime lob over the home custodian for a wonderful victory.
The FA Cup exertions did have an ongoing impact, however, as Okehampton slipped to a 4-2 defeat at home to Teignmouth in their opening league fixture, with tired legs a definite factor.
