Differing fortunes for Bridestowe and Bovey

One local side heading for promotion, one for relegation

Promotion beckons for 'little' Bridestowe and relegation looms for 'big' Bovey Tracey as the Tolchards Devon Cricket League moves into its final two games of the season.

Bridestowe are poised to continue their remarkable rise up the county pyramid and, after beating Seaton away by 120 runs last weekend to stand 22 points clear of the B Division, the champagne corks will be popping if they can see off Chudleigh at Millaton this Saturday.

Charlie Neilson (40 and 3-13) helped to post 190 against Seaton, who were then bowled out for 90.

But it's a very different story on the other side of the moor where Bovey, one of the strongest and best-run clubs in the league, need a miracle to avoid going down from the Premier Division with North Devon.

Once again Bovey's top order failed, and it took another typically gritty 43 from skipper Lewis Hammett to post 186ao at the Recreation Ground.

It wasn't enough to bother Tiverton Heathcoat, who cruised home by seven wickets with ten overs to spare - Harry Southgate hit 107no.  It was Bovey's ninth successive defeat.

Above adrift North Devon, Bovey (147pts) are 15 points behind Plympton and Paignton with two games to go - they host Cornwood (4th) this Saturday and then travel to Exmouth on Sept 2.

Sandford, who have won 13 games on the trot, will wrap the Premier Division for the first time in 19 years if they beat Heathcoat at home this weekend.

And it's between Kilmington (225pts) and Torquay (214) for the second promotion place behind A Division leaders Exeter.
