Plymouth Argyle U16s victorious in Tavistock tournament

Tavistock AFC and Mount Kelly College were the hosts for the Eamonn Dolan Memorial Tournament in partnership with Live Like a Pro, and the U16 team from Plymouth Argyle’s Academy were the winners in a thrilling final.

The young Pilgrims were held to a 0-0 draw with Reading in their opening match but then defeated Bristol City 3-2 in a cracking group match to set up a showdown with their old rivals from Exeter City.

Argyle only needed a draw to qualify for the final at Langsford Park but instead turned on the style to defeat the Grecians with a terrific attacking display.

The final was a rematch with Bristol City and an absolute thriller for all football fans in Tavistock.

Argyle scored early, Sam Lord finishing off a sweeping move involving Fin Herbert and Tegan Finn. City fought back with an equaliser from the talented left boot of Finn restored the Pilgrim lead from 20 yards.

Bristol responded again to lead 3-2 at the break but it was all Argyle in the second period. Amari Hadley pressured the goalkeeper to gift Kian Burch an easy equaliser and then Lord slotted a delightful finish from just inside the box.

Substitute Frankie Maund completed the 5-3 win and Argyle captain Toby Haley was presented with the trophy by Mike Trebilcock.
