Brilliant cup victories for the Okes

A sensational start to the football season for Okehampton Argyle is getting better all the time.

After a dramatic win over Brixham in the first stage of the FA Cup, the Okes took on another South Devon opponent from a higher division and, like Brixham before them, Buckland Athletic had no answer to the Moorland marvels.

In a tense replay at Simmons Park, the Okes edged in front via a 25-yard strike from Luke Reynolds on the half-hour and the home side took a huge step to the next round just before half-time, when a cross from Luke Alden was turned in for an own goal.

Buckland pulled one back after the break and Okehampton had to defend with discipline and courage before confirming their next challenge at home to Highworth Town on 2nd September.

The good form has also extended to the FA Vase competition, with Ollie Snow banging in a fabulous hat-trick in a dominant 3-0 win over Wellington. The Okes will host Bude at Simmons Park on 23rd September.

Cup exploits means Okehampton will have to catch up with fixtures in the South-West Peninsula League, where Ivybridge Town are the early pace-setters ahead of Bridport and Axminster. Bovey Tracey sit poised in fourth after making an unbeaten start.
