Simmons slots a kick
Okehampton beat Ivybridge in a rugby classic
Okehampton and Ivybridge played out a Moorland derby to make all fans of local proud, as the Okes edged a thriller 34-30.
On a dry sunny afternoon, and after an immaculately observed minute's silence after the tragic loss of Gary Sizmur, both sides displayed an attacking intent that Sizzy would've enjoyed.
An early penalty from Luke Simmons was followed by a driving maul that created the opportunity for Matt Coles to dot down. Simmons added the extras and the Okes led 10-0.
Ivybridge forward Sam Furse responded with a try for the visitors but a kick ahead and a footrace saw the prolific Leon Horn score out wide for a try excellently converted by Simmons. The Ivies fought back with more fine kicking to trail 17-10 at the break.
Ivybridge scored again after half-time, despite being a man down, before a loose pass gifted Dan Fogerty another score for the Okes. The rollercoaster match took another twist when Ivybridge centre Charlie Brant drove through the middle to make it 24-20.
The decisive score came when Fogerty found some space before passing to the electric Horn dive over the line. Simmons, once again, slotted the kick with aplomb. A penalty and Morgan Cross try brough the Ivies to within four points but this was an Okehampton day.
