Honiton with the trophy
Victory for Honiton in the Dartmoor golfing comp
Honiton went to Thurlstone as underdogs in the Dartmoor League Cup Final v Exeter, and with Captain Julian Netherway unfortunately away on holiday, it was always going to be a tough day on the fairways.
With determination and the thoughts of the Captain lying in the sun, Honiton gained their first point with a 2/1 win for lead pair Andy Phillips and Steve Milton. This was followed by a loss for Mark Whitcombe and Mike Abraham but third pairing Paul Borkowski and Corey Leisk gave Honiton a 2-1 advantage.
With the news coming from the last two matches, being very close, the tension started to grow and it was the paring of Ed Reece and Paul Stewart who held their nerve with Stewart holing a five foot putt on the seventeenth to secure the trophy.
This came as a huge relief to David Carnall and Mark Kingdon who were in the last match as, after the sixteenth, it was all square, Honiton were victorious 3.5-1.5. Phone calls were soon made to Captain Julian out in Spain who congratulated his team on a brilliant win.
The team comprised Steve Milton, Andrew Phillips, Mark Kingdon, Mike Abrahams, Ed Reece, Captain for the day David Carnall, Mark Whitcombe, Paul Stewart, Corey Leisk and Paul Borkowski.
