Tavistock AC cheque presentation
Iconic Dartmoor race at the end of October
The clock is ticking for entry into the iconic ‘Tavy 7’, which includes a race for the Ross Shield, Devon’s oldest running championship.
Hosted by Tavistock Athletics Club, the Tavy 7 is a seven-mile race staged on a beautifully scenic course through Dartmoor. The course starts at Plaster Down on the western edge of Dartmoor and strides past Pew Tor and the delightful hamlet of Sampford Spinney.
The starter’s whistle will sound at 11am on Sunday, 29th October and entries are welcomed until Wednesday, 25th October, unless the 700 places available have been filled. Full details can be found on www.tavistockathleticsclub.co.uk
Tavistock runners embarked on a special tribute race, dedicated to one of their young athletes, Clarissa Nicholls, who was a member of the club and tragically passed away at the age of 20. All registration monies from the event were donated to the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
In the race, Oliver Smart retook his course record from Jim Cole with a brilliant run. Allan Herman also performed superbly on the day, improving his own Vets M70 record.
And finally, Tavistock AC Chairman Alistair Kinsey presented the Lions Club of Tavistock with a cheque of £1,000 last month, with the money raised during the Tavistock Town Relays in July’s Carnival Week.
