National Trust volunteers from Dartmoor and North Devon have joined forces for the first day of a two-part 'Moor to Moor volunteer exchange.'

The volunteer exchange, which started on January 25, took the volunteers to Barna Barrow, Countisbury, North Devon where they successfully planted an impressive 1400 trees.

These trees, carefully selected to thrive in the challenging location, include hawthorn, blackthorn, crab apple, wild pear, whitebeam, rowan, and guelder rose.

Beyond contributing to the landscape, the new habitat is expected to benefit local wildlife and neighbouring lands.

Expressing delight over Dartmoor National Trust's participation in the volunteer exchange, Amy U’Ren, Volunteering & Community Officer for West Exmoor, highlighted the joy of trying something new and meeting new people in previously unexplored locations. She eagerly anticipates the return exchange in February when North Devon's West Exmoor team will contribute to Heath Fritillary habitat creation at Castle Drogo.

Reflecting on the collective effort, Amy U’Ren shared, "None of this great climate and nature work could happen on the same scale without our amazing volunteers."

As a continuation of this spirit of community engagement, North Devon National Trust is hosting a drop-in morning on Saturday, February 24, welcoming those interested in volunteering on Exmoor.

Attendees will discover various ways to get involved, have fun, and make a meaningful impact on nature. More information can be found at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/devon/heddon-valley/events
