The iconic and globally renowned production of War Horse is coming to Plymouth this autumn.

From November 26 to December 7 2024, the smash hit show will be shown at Plymouth's Theatre Royal.

Based on Michael Morpurgo's novel, the stage show is set to embark on a major 18-month UK Tour, starting from September 5, 2024, and continuing until 2026.

The theatrical masterpiece will kick off its tour at the New Wimbledon Theatre from September 5 to 14, 2024.

War Horse transports audiences into the heart of World War I, following the remarkable journey of a young boy named Albert and his horse, Joey. Against the backdrop of war's devastation, the production delivers a powerful narrative filled with dramatic music, outstanding puppetry by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, and imaginative storytelling that brings Joey and other characters to life on stage.

Following its debut in Wimbledon, War Horse will tour through various cities, including Salford, Southampton, Canterbury, Sunderland, and Plymouth.

The tour will then continue to Oxford and other yet-to-be-announced venues, promising an unforgettable experience for theatre enthusiasts across the UK.

Adapted by Nick Stafford and originally directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, War Horse has achieved unparalleled success, earning more than 25 major awards and captivating over 8.3 million viewers worldwide.

This all-new tour, co-produced with Michael Harrison, Fiery Angel, and Playing Field, has aimed to continue its legacy of excellence and storytelling prowess.

Director Tom Morris expressed his excitement about revisiting War Horse. He reflected on the production's origin as a groundbreaking experiment at the National Theatre Studio.

Author Michael Morpurgo shared his delight at the revival of War Horse. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to witness the production return to the stage, inviting audiences to once again experience the magic of Joey's story.

As the tour coincides with the 110th anniversary of World War I and the 40th anniversary of Morpurgo's novel, it serves as an enduring power of storytelling.

Executive Director of the National Theatre, Kate Varah, expressed her excitement about launching the tour, revealing the production's ability to resonate with audiences of all ages and celebrate the magic of live performance.
