The Devil Wears Prada is strutting into Plymouth at the Theatre Royal with a star-studded cast and a fresh twist on the beloved story.

Leading the charge is none other than the iconic Vanessa Williams, celebrated for her roles in Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, who will embody the iconic character of Miranda Priestly, Editor-in-Chief of Runway Magazine.

Set to debut at Theatre Royal Plymouth from July 6-August 17, this highly anticipated musical adaptation has promised to captivate audiences with its blend of humour, glamour, and poignant storytelling.

The musical follows the journey of aspiring journalist Andy, who lands a job at Runway magazine under the mentorship of the formidable Miranda Priestly. Sacrificing personal aspirations for professional success, Andy finds herself navigating the glamorous yet cutthroat world of high fashion, leading to questions about identity, ambition, and personal integrity.

Vanessa Williams, known for her versatility as an actress and her powerhouse vocals as a singer, has expressed her excitement about taking on the role of Miranda Priestly, stating, "Bringing Miranda Priestly to life on the West End is an absolute dream come true. Gird your loins, folks."

The Devil Wears Prada musical, based on the hit movie and bestselling novel, will offer an exclusive preview engagement at Theatre Royal Plymouth running for just over one month before making its grand entrance into London's Dominion Theatre in October 2024.

With an original score by music icon Elton John, lyrics by singer-songwriter Shaina Taub, and a book by Kate Wetherhead, the production promises to be a dazzling spectacle under the direction and choreography of three-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell.

James Mackenzie-Blackman, Chief Executive and Executive Producer of Theatre Royal Plymouth, expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming Vanessa Williams, “We are thrilled to welcome Vanessa to Theatre Royal Plymouth, and our city, this summer. Miranda Priestly is such an iconic role and we can’t think of anyone more suited to bring this character to the stage.”

Following its preview run in Plymouth, The Devil Wears Prada will make its mark on the West End stage, offering theatregoers a hilariously fun and fabulously stylish experience. Featuring an all-star, award-winning creative team and promising a new perspective on the beloved story, The Devil Wears Prada musical is a must-see event for theatre enthusiasts and fashionistas alike.

Further casting announcements are to be expected at a later date, giving audiences a chance to experience a theatrical sensation like no other.
