The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for Plymouth, warning residents of possible flooding during several high tides this week.

According to the agency, flooding is anticipated over the morning and evening high tides on Sunday, March 10, Monday, March 11, Tuesday, March 12, and the morning high tide on Wednesday, March 13.

The high water at Plymouth is expected at 05.39am and 18.08pm on Sunday, but the times of high water will vary along the coast.

These high spring tides, combined with low pressure and moderate easterly winds, could potentially cause flooding to quay sides and low-lying coastal areas.

Forecasters are predicting tides to be up to 400mm higher than usual due to prevailing weather conditions.

Consequently, people are advised to stay away from risk areas and to exercise caution next to the coast.

Specifically, areas along the A374 on Embankment Road, Marsh Mills roundabout, and Plymouth Hoe are highlighted as potentially vulnerable spots.

The Environment Agency will be closely monitoring the situation and will issue daily updates as needed.

Detailed tidal information is available for those who require it, with the forecast high tide level at Plymouth on Sunday morning predicted to be 2.93m AOD, 0.36m above the astronomical tide level.
