Devon & Cornwall Police have launched an appeal for information following concerns for the welfare of a man last seen in the water in Plymouth.

The incident was reported at approximately 11.10pm on Monday, March 18.

The individual in question has been identified as Michael Oppong Yeboah, aged 18. According to reports, Mr Yeboah was last spotted in the water, and apprehension arose when he failed to return to the shore.

Upon receiving the call, specialised teams from both the police and Coastguard promptly mobilised to search the area.

Despite their efforts, Mr Yeboah was not located. His next of kin have been duly informed of the situation.

At the shore where Michael was last seen, floral tributes, candles, and pictures have been placed, accompanied by messages on the sea wall.

Detective Constable Adam Fitzpatrick, heading the investigation, stated: "From our enquiries we know that a group of people have spent the evening together before going down to the shoreline for a swim. The rest of the group returned to land but Michael did not. Specialist search and dive teams have searched the area but have not located him. We are supporting Michael’s family and our enquiries are ongoing."

DC Fitzpatrick said: "I’m keen to hear from anyone who saw a group of people in the area of the shoreline next to Tinside Lido during the evening of 18 March and may be able to assist us."

The force has urged any witnesses or individuals with pertinent information to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Those who can provide valuable insights into the events of that evening are requested to contact the police on 101, quoting reference number 50240065594.
