Voting is now well under way across Dartmoor, with polling stations having been open for two hours.

With turnout expected to be high, here’s what voters need to know to ensure a smooth and efficient voting experience.

What you need to take to the polling station

Voter ID: Check if you have an accepted form of photo ID. The photo ID you show must be the original version. You cannot use a photograph, image on a phone or a photocopy of your ID.

You’ll need one of the following types of photo ID to vote:

  • A UK photocard driving licence (full or provisional)
  • A driving licence issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the Isle of Man, or any of the Channel Islands
  • A UK passport
  • A passport issued by an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or a Commonwealth country
  • A PASS card (National Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
  • A Blue Badge
  • A biometric residence permit (BRP)
  • A Defence Identity Card (MOD form 90)
  • A Voter Authority Certificate
  • An Anonymous Elector’s Document
  • You can also use one of the following travel passes as photo ID when you vote:
  • An older person’s bus pass
  • A disabled person’s bus pass

At the polling station

Polling Station Location: Confirm your designated polling station. You should have received this information by mail.

Opening hours: Polling stations opened at 7am are open and will close promptly at 10pm tonight.

Accessibility: If you require assistance, polling stations are equipped to accommodate voters with disabilities. Ask an official for any help you might need.

Voting process

Upon arrival, check in with the polling station staff who will verify your identity and provide you with a ballot paper.

Follow the instructions provided to mark your ballot. Ensure that you do not spoil your vote by making stray marks or voting for more candidates than allowed.

Once you have marked your ballot, place it in the ballot box. If you are using a postal vote, ensure it is dropped off before the polling station closes.

Additional information

If you encounter any issues or have questions about the voting process, there will be a help desk at the polling station to assist you.

There may be official observers present to ensure the integrity of the voting process. They are not allowed to interfere with your voting.

Voting is considered by many to be a fundamental right and an important civic duty.
