Rebecca and Corin Burton from Bovey Larder
Bovey’s Food & Craft Festival 2024, previously called Nourish, is being organised this year by Rebecca and Corin Burton who own and run Bovey Larder, the town’s zero waste and refill shop. A great day is planned for 7th September.
“When Sarah James announced that she could not run Nourish this year, we simply could not let 2024 pass by with a huge gap in the calendar where the festival should be,” said Corin. “We met with her, and with her blessing, have taken over organising Bovey’s popular food and craft festival.”
Rebecca added: “We really love the festival, and how it celebrates the amazing food and crafts of producers in the South West. The atmosphere on the day is always vibrant with people sampling excellent food and drink and enjoying lunch in the many pop-up speciality, international food kitchens. The day also gives local people and visitors the opportunity to experience what our picturesque market town has to offer with its interesting, independent food and craft shops.”
The Festival is so well-established that 60 stallholders have already signed up for it, and it is being sponsored by four large local, businesses: CareRight, Simpkins Edwards, WBW Solicitors and Wignalls Kitchens & Bathrooms.
This combination of stallholders and sponsors means Corin and Rebecca are confident that it will be a fantastic show for the thousands of visitors expected on 7th September.
They added: “We are both passionate about the local community and encouraging people to shop locally, which not only helps the local economy and builds community relationships, but also gives customers a choice of local products which are often of a higher quality. The annual festival contributes hundreds of thousands of pounds to the economies of the town and the wider South West. Bovey Tracey is a wonderful town and really comes alive on festival days.”
Bovey Larder operates slightly differently from other shops and supermarkets. Its prime aim is to reduce single use plastics that most larder goods are wrapped in. “We stock larder staples in bulk so you can buy as much or as little as you need,” said Rebecca. “We also have a range of products to make living an ecologically friendlier life easier, and we both passionately believe that we cannot continue to live in a world that we abuse and pollute the planet and use it as an infinite resource. We believe that our lifestyle and shopping habits need to change so that we can all enjoy a good, and sustainable, future.”
