Trevi’s Warrior Women Walk returns for 2024 with high hopes and big goals

Join the Warrior Women in walking for Trevi

Trevi’s Warrior Women Walk is back and set to be bigger and better than ever! This year’s event will take place on Saturday, October 5th, inviting women from all walks of life to join a 10K walk around the picturesque Burrator Reservoir near Yelverton. The event aims to raise essential funds for women affected by domestic abuse and violence.

Hayley Everett, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Trevi, expressed excitement for the upcoming event: “This is our third annual walk, and we are truly humbled by the continued support of so many incredible women and girls,” she said. “The walk is not only a fantastic opportunity to get active and enjoy the beautiful surroundings but also a powerful way to raise vital funds for women who have faced domestic abuse and violence.”

Participants in the Warrior Women Walk will receive a complimentary T-shirt and a commemorative Warrior medal upon completing the event. With four starting waves to accommodate the anticipated 750 walkers, this year’s event promises to be the largest yet. “We can’t wait to see everyone come together for this important cause,” Hayley added.

Since its inception, the Warrior Women Walk has raised over £55,000, with more than 500 women participating in the past two years. The funds raised support Trevi’s Sunflower Women’s Centre, the only women’s centre in Plymouth, which provides a safe space for over 700 women facing complex challenges, including trauma and abuse. The centre offers a comprehensive range of therapeutic services addressing issues such as addiction, mental health, domestic abuse, and social isolation.

This year, Trevi aims to gather 750 participants and raise over £50,000. The walk not only unites women who have experienced trauma but also brings together those who advocate for a future free from violence and those simply looking to enjoy a day out with friends.

The statistics highlight the importance of this cause: last year, 1.4 million women in the UK were victims of domestic abuse, and eight women per month were killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales. Trevi supports more than 1,000 women affected by domestic violence or abuse annually, with 80% of women at their Jasmine Mother and Child residential rehab centre and two-thirds of those accessing the Sunflower Women’s Centre having experienced domestic abuse.

One of these women, Sarah, shared her story of how the Sunflower Women’s Centre helped her escape an abusive relationship and rebuild her life: “When I went to Sunflower, I was at the lowest point in my life. The team there supported me, empowered me, and helped me regain my confidence. I never imagined I would be able to work again, but now I’ve secured paid employment and can provide for my daughter,” Sarah said.

The 2024 Warrior Women Walk is proudly sponsored by Plymouth City Bus, a long-time supporter of Trevi. Jess Bolt, Marketing Manager at Plymouth City Bus, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the event. “We are thrilled to be sponsoring the Warrior Women Walk for the second year. The walk raises crucial funds for Trevi, and we are proud to support the charity in any way we can,” Jess said. In addition to sponsorship, Plymouth City Bus will provide shuttle buses on the day to ensure participants can easily access the walk.

Trevi is hopeful that this year’s Warrior Women Walk will be another resounding success. Women are encouraged to participate individually, in teams, or as part of business groups and organisations. All are welcome to get involved and make a difference.
