Residents and friends celebrated together

Hatherleigh Nursing Home had a fantastic time whilst hosting their relatives BBQ, inviting loved ones and friends into their Okehampton home. Residents, who the home refer to as family members, welcomed their relatives and friends to a day of community celebration. Whilst the home regularly holds meetings for relatives to connect, this time they decided to make it an all-day event in the sunshine.

The event kicked off in the afternoon when the home's big BBQ was fired up, filling the air with mouthwatering aroma of grilled meats and vegetables. The BBQ created a lively and communal atmosphere, as everyone gathered and mingled to enjoy the delicious food and each other’s company. The fun continued with the arrival of Cold N Rolled, a family run business that uniquely crafts and rolls ice cream desserts. As it was conveniently National Ice Cream Day too, everybody was in awe watching the making of the desserts as well as the endless flavours and toppings to choose from!

Maintenance team Dave and Jamie hand-built an impressive tiki bar from scratch, crafting every detail with care and precision, whilst the rest of the team decorated it with colourful, tropical flair. The tiki bar was a hit, and it quickly became a favourite spot for everyone. Visitors laughed and took turns taking photos with loved ones at the comical beach screens. The garden was fully transformed into a hub of activity.

Hatherleigh Nursing Home is thankful to all the team that helped make this event possible, as well as the visitors from the community who came to experience firsthand the welcoming atmosphere that defines their home. This event was a wonderful opportunity for relatives, team and family members to unite, celebrating the strong sense of community that thrives within the home's walls. The day highlighted not only the home’s commitment to creating meaningful connections, but also the vibrant, supportive environment that makes Hatherleigh a home.
