The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Dartmoor, as well as parts of the South of England and Wales, predicting heavy showers and thunderstorms that may cause significant disruption, particularly to travel, later on Monday. While some areas may escape the worst of the weather, residents are advised to prepare for potential impacts.

The warning is in force from 4pm today (October 7) until 23.59pm.

What to expect:

  • Driving Conditions: Expect affected driving conditions due to spray, standing water, and possibly hail, leading to longer journey times for cars and buses.

  • Flooding Risks: Some flooding of homes and businesses is possible, particularly in vulnerable areas.

  • Power Outages: There may be a short-term loss of power and other services.

  • Travel Delays: Delays to train services are anticipated, so commuters should plan accordingly.

  • Damage Risks: Lightning strikes, hail, or gusty winds may cause damage to buildings and structures, especially near coastal areas.

Residents are urged to stay informed about weather conditions and take necessary precautions as the situation develops throughout the day.
