Exeter Airport sees rise in passenger numbers

More flights are expected to be added

Exeter Airport sees rise in passenger numbers

Stephen Wiltshire, Exeter Airport's Managing Director

Exeter Airport has reported steady growth over the summer, with a 5 per cent increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year.

Between April and October, the airport saw 337,993 passengers pass through its gates, up by 15,740 from the previous year.

The rise is attributed in part to the successful launch of a new Ryanair route to Palma in Majorca.

August proved to be the busiest month, with nearly 57,000 people using the airport.

Looking forward to 2025, the airport is set to continue its growth.

TUI has confirmed plans to base a second aircraft at Exeter Airport next summer, which will add 80,000 seats and introduce a new flight to Ibiza.

Additional services to popular destinations such as the Canary Islands, Greek Islands, and Turkey are also expected.

Stephen Wiltshire, Managing Director of Exeter Airport, said: “The continued growth in passenger numbers is a testament to the hard work of our team and the appeal of Exeter Airport as a convenient gateway to 25 UK and overseas destinations for travellers from across the region. With TUI’s second aircraft arriving next summer and new routes being added, we’re excited to offer even more choice to local people flying from their local airport.”

This summer’s success follows Exeter Airport’s return to profitability for the first time since the pandemic, with its finances improving over the 12 months leading up to March.

Earlier this year, the airport was also recognised as one of the top five airports in the UK for customer service, based on a national consumer survey.

Exeter Airport is operated by Regional & City Airports (RCA), part of Rigby Group plc. RCA also manages Norwich and Bournemouth airports and holds the management contract for Solent Airport.
