Bovey Tracey businesses host a month of Festive Fridays for the community

Feeling Christmassy in Bovey

The business community in Bovey Tracey is getting into the holiday spirit, planning a
calendar of Festive Fridays for all to enjoy. Starting November 29 and running through
December 20, 2024, locals and visitors can enjoy four Friday nights of fun from 6-8pm, with
live entertainment from local music and performing groups as well as food trucks, including
Soul Pizza Truck and Alora Drinks, in the main Fore Street “triangle” and late-night shopping
from the wonderful mix of independent businesses along Fore Street and Station Road.
Over 25 Bovey Tracey businesses are joining in the fun over the month for a first-of-its-kind
collaborative effort in the town, spearheaded by Bovey 4 Business. Many businesses will
also host fun in-store activities across the four weeks, including a book signing from local
mystery writer Stephanie Austin at independent bookstore First Draft Books on November 29
and festive family-friendly creative workshops every Friday at Pom Stitch Tassel. The full list
of participating businesses and activities will be posted on the Facebook events page.
These Festive Fridays are free and open to everyone. The Bovey Tracey Carnival will also
be hosting its annual Christmas lighting party for the community on December 7, so all are
invited to enjoy the full calendar of activities in town this holiday season.
Emma Rendell, Owner of Pom Stitch Tassel, said: "Christmas is the season to be jolly
and it felt only right that our super town should host its own late night shopping evenings. As
a small business we have the flexibility to be able to open longer hours and offer more
activities and events in store, which are always a draw. We would love to encourage our
local community to come and support and shop local this year in Bovey Tracey, as our town
has an abundance to offer!"
Steve Jones, co-owner of Grace & Favour Home, said: “Giving people the chance to get
together, especially in the festive period, is so important for building and preserving a
community spirit and you never know what it can mean for an individual. As businesses we
have a responsibility to foster that community feeling and keep this lovely town thriving for
years to come.”
Corin Burton, Bovey Tracey Council Member and Co-Owner of Bovey Larder, said:
“Bovey businesses continue to form integral, important components of our vibrant Bovey
Tracey community. Events like our Festive Fridays benefit local, independent businesses,
but also bring some joy to the town, particularly at Christmas time and really help to bind the
community together.”
