The Theatre Royal in Plymouth is gearing up for an extraordinary year, with a vibrant lineup of performances guaranteed to delight theatre enthusiasts of all ages and tastes.

From award-winning musicals to star-studded concerts and beloved comedies, the 2025 schedule offers something for everyone, ensuring the South West remains a cultural hotspot.

Comedy fans can start the year with a bang as the outrageous The Book of Mormon arrives from 14–25 January.

Created by South Park masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone, alongside Avenue Q and Frozen co-writer Bobby Lopez, this multi-award-winning musical promises sharp wit, unforgettable songs, and plenty of irreverence.

The story follows two mismatched missionaries who find themselves far from the comforts of Salt Lake City, navigating unexpected challenges with hilarity at every turn.

Disney lovers will be enchanted by Mary Poppins the Musical from 26 February to 29 March. Based on P.L. Travers’ timeless stories and the beloved Disney film, the show tells the story of the world’s favourite nanny bringing her magic to Cherry Tree Lane.

Audiences can expect stunning choreography, memorable tunes, and an unforgettable theatre experience.

April sees the arrival of Kinky Boots the Musical (22–26 April), featuring Strictly Come Dancing star Johannes Radebe.

This uplifting production, inspired by true events, is a celebration of acceptance and individuality, with show-stopping dance numbers and a vibrant energy that will have audiences on their feet.

June promises star-studded performances, starting with Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s concert on 9 June.

The pop sensation, known for hits like Murder on the Dancefloor, will take the stage for an evening of music that blends nostalgia with modern-day flair.

Her recent resurgence, including a feature in the film Saltburn, ensures her performance will be a highlight of the year.

Later that month, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (24–28 June) returns to the Theatre Royal, starring X Factor winner Joe McElderry as the Pharaoh.

This vibrant production, filled with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic songs, colourful costumes, and uplifting storytelling, is a must-see for families and musical theatre fans alike.

As the year draws to a close, comedy legend John Cleese brings his iconic Fawlty Towers to the stage from 1–6 December.

Nearly 50 years after it first aired on TV, the sitcom hailed as the "Greatest British Sitcom of All Time" (Radio Times) makes its theatrical debut.

Adapted by Cleese himself and directed by Caroline Jay Ranger, this brand-new stage play promises to deliver all the chaos and hilarity of Basil, Sybil, and Manuel, reimagined for a live audience.

The Theatre Royal’s 2025 schedule doesn’t end there.

Alongside these headline acts, audiences can look forward to an array of performances, from dramatic plays to family-friendly shows.

The full programme and ticket details are available on the Theatre Royal’s website.

With such a diverse and exciting lineup, Plymouth’s Theatre Royal is set to provide unforgettable moments of joy, laughter, and inspiration for audiences throughout the year. Whether you’re a fan of musicals, comedy, or live music, 2025 promises to be a landmark year for theatre in the South West.
