South Hams and West Devon introduce PayByPhone for cashless parking

Tavistock

Introduced on Sunday, 12 January, residents and visitors in South Hams and West Devon can enjoy a streamlined parking experience as South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council officially partner with PayByPhone, a global leader in mobile parking payments. The service will provide cashless parking options for nearly 4,300 spaces across 53 off-street locations.

The PayByPhone app offers an easy and efficient way for drivers to manage their parking sessions. The app includes features such as text reminders before a parking session expires, the ability to extend sessions remotely, and tools like the Maps and Nearby Parking features to locate parking spaces quickly.

Cllr Victor Abbott, Executive Member for Community Services and Operations at South Hams District Council, welcomed the collaboration:
“We’re looking forward to working with our new cashless parking provider, PayByPhone. This is another step in improving our services for residents. If you haven’t already, download the PayByPhone app now so it’s ready when you need it.”

Cllr Adam Bridgewater, Hub Member for Neighbourhood Services at West Devon Borough Council, commented: “We want to make parking in our wonderful towns as easy as possible for both residents and visitors. PayByPhone simplifies the process, and I encourage everyone to download the app.”

Businesses in the area can also benefit from PayByPhone Business, a tool designed to consolidate parking expenses and simplify financial management for employees. The app is available in 11 languages, making it accessible for Devon’s approximately 123.9 million annual day-visitors.

Adam Dolphin, Managing Director UK for PayByPhone, spoke about the app’s comprehensive features: “PayByPhone doesn’t just simplify parking. It offers tools like a Fuel Finder for the cheapest fuel stations, an EV Charge Locator, and even an MOT booking system to make vehicle management easier. This full-service app is designed to help users focus on what matters most. We are thrilled to launch PayByPhone in the South Hams and West Devon, helping to simplify the parking experience for residents and visitors to this wonderful area. Drivers using the PayByPhone app can opt in to receive a reminder text before their parking session expires, so they can either get back to their vehicles in good time to avoid a penalty notice, or, should their visit last longer than anticipated, they can extend their parking session, in accordance with the car parks terms and conditions, from anywhere at any time through the PayByPhone app or wearable device. So, whether it’s a spot of shopping in the local towns, or a wild walk in the Devon Countryside or coastal areas, PayByPhone has it covered.”

The partnership supports the councils’ goals to enhance accessibility and promote efficient travel within the district, catering to a variety of travel needs from shopping in town centres to exploring Devon’s countryside and coastal attractions.

For a complete list of PayByPhone-enabled locations and to start using the service, download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store, or visit www.paybyphone.co.uk.

South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council are confident that PayByPhone will not only modernise parking but also improve the overall visitor and resident experience in the area.
