Devon-based homebuilder Barratt Homes has donated £1,500 to the Cherrybrook Day Case Chemotherapy Unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The contribution, made through the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity, is part of Barratt Homes’ Community Fund initiative, which supports local causes and organisations.
The donation was made in honour of Roger, a family friend of a Barratt Homes team member, who passed away in 2020 following a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. During his treatment, Roger received care at the Cherrybrook unit, which left a lasting impression on his family and friends. A Barratt Homes employee nominated the unit to receive funding as a way to give back for the exceptional care Roger received and the compassionate support offered to his family.
The Cherrybrook Unit specializes in day case chemotherapy and acute oncology triage, providing tailored care to cancer patients in a supportive environment. The unit is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, with additional support provided by volunteers from the FORCE Cancer Charity, who offer patients information and emotional support.
The donation from Barratt Homes will be used to enhance the unit’s facilities and services, ensuring it continues to deliver high standards of care to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
The Royal Devon Hospitals Charity, which facilitated the donation, supports two acute hospitals, 17 community hospitals, and various specialist and primary care services across North, Mid, and East Devon. The charity works to augment NHS funding by investing in advanced medical equipment, staff training, improved environments, and cutting-edge research.
Andrea Pilgrim, Sales Director at Barratt Homes, expressed the company’s heartfelt support:
"We were moved by the story behind this nomination and are honoured to support the incredible work of the Cherrybrook Unit. The dedication and care shown by the staff make a real difference to so many people in our community. We hope this donation will help them continue to provide their outstanding services."
Debbie Allen, Community Fundraiser at the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity, also shared her gratitude:
"We are hugely grateful to Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter for their generous donation. This contribution will help us continue to provide vital support to patients and staff at Cherrybrook. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together to honour Roger’s memory and support others facing similar challenges."
Barratt Homes’ Community Fund initiative provides monthly donations to local organisations that contribute positively to their communities. This ongoing commitment reflects the homebuilder’s mission to support and uplift the areas where it operates.
