Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon, the builder behind two major housing developments in Plymouth, has donated £3,000 to the Argyle Community Trust, the charitable arm of Plymouth Argyle Football Club.
The donation was presented at Home Park, Plymouth Argyle’s home stadium, in the presence of Cllr Tudor Evans, Leader of Plymouth City Council, and Cllr Sue Dann, Cabinet Member for Sport. The funds will support the Trust’s initiatives at The Hub at Foulston Park, set to launch this spring, enabling new weekly football and multi-sport sessions for local children with disabilities.
Argyle Community Trust, the official charity of Plymouth Argyle FC, has been serving the community for over 20 years. Its mission is to empower individuals, particularly those facing barriers to health, education, and employment, through football and sport. The Trust delivers a wide range of activities, from grassroots football to educational programmes and social action initiatives.
This donation will help the Trust purchase inclusive equipment and expand its services, providing children with disabilities opportunities to build confidence, develop skills, and make new friends in an accessible and supportive environment.
Dwain Morgan, Head of Business Development for Argyle Community Trust, said: "Thanks to Persimmon Homes, we’re able to create a fun environment for young players who often face challenges accessing community sport. This support will make a significant difference in their lives."
Persimmon Homes, known for its developments at Palmerston Heights in Derriford and Saltram Meadows in Plymstock, contributes £24,000 annually to good causes in Cornwall and West Devon through its Community Champions scheme. Previous beneficiaries include Plymouth Night Patrol, Argyle Pride, St Luke’s Hospice, and Building Plymouth.
Jane Cartwright, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon, spoke about the company’s commitment to community-building: "We are proud to support Argyle Community Trust, whose incredible work impacts so many in Plymouth. At Palmerston Heights, we’ve also partnered with Plymouth Community Homes to deliver housing association properties, reinforcing our mission to leave a positive and lasting legacy."
Plymouth City Council leaders commended the collaboration between Persimmon Homes and Argyle Community Trust. Cllr Tudor Evans noted: "It’s fantastic to see a major developer supporting such a valuable local charity. Argyle Community Trust’s work in Plymouth is exemplary, and we look forward to the impact of this donation at Brickfields Sports Hub."
Cllr Sue Dann added: "The funds will make football more accessible for people with diverse needs, ensuring more of our community can participate in sport. This partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration between businesses, charities, and local government."
The new Hub at Foulston Park, part of the Brickfields Sports Hub, will provide specialist facilities to deliver disability-friendly sports sessions, making a meaningful difference to the lives of children and families in the Plymouth area.
