An artisan group originally based in Manaton is rebranding as Moorland Makers, marking a new chapter for the collective ahead of its spring event.

Previously known as Manaton Makers, the group has decided to update its name as fewer members are now based in the village.

The change better reflects the wider Dartmoor area its artists and makers now represent.

The group, originally formed in Manaton, has been running since 2008.

Philippa Waldron, one of the members, explained: “Manaton, soon to be Moorland Makers, is a group of artists which was started in Manaton with their first Open Studio exhibition in 2008. So it’s been running for 17 years.”

Moorland Makers will continue to showcase a wide variety of work, including art, ceramics, embroidery, felted textiles, jewellery, rugs, and woodwork.

Their main annual event is the Devon Open Studios exhibition, which takes place every September and allows artists to exhibit individually or as part of a group at a chosen venue.

Alongside this, the group also participates in local events and regularly holds fayres at Ullacombe Farm, where members demonstrate and sell their creations.

To celebrate their new name, Moorland Makers will be holding a spring fayre at Ullacombe Farm, Bovey Tracey, on March 8-9 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The event offers the perfect opportunity to explore the diverse range of creations by local artisans.

The event will be held at Ullacombe Farm, TQ13 9LL.
