Local businesses seeking a unique team-building opportunity while giving back to the community are invited to participate in Dartmoor in a Day, a 30-kilometre (18.6 miles) trek across the rugged landscapes of Dartmoor National Park. Organised by Hospiscare, the challenge aims to raise vital funds for end-of-life care for patients across Exeter, Central, and East Devon.
The event, set for September 6th, offers an unforgettable experience for teams of any size to strengthen bonds, develop leadership skills, and push personal boundaries while exploring Dartmoor’s wild beauty, including Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, and the park’s iconic “volcano” formation.
Ellie Melmoth, Partnerships Manager at Hospiscare, said: “This is a great team-building challenge with a difference; a fantastic opportunity to stretch your team’s comfort zone, push boundaries, and bring colleagues together after long periods of remote work. Team members will cultivate trust, improve communication, and develop leadership skills, all while trekking through some of Dartmoor’s most stunning scenery.
“Instead of paying for a corporate away day, businesses can make a meaningful difference by supporting end-of-life care through Dartmoor in a Day.”
The trek begins in Postbridge and finishes in Ivybridge, hosted by Climb South West, whose qualified mountain leaders will be on hand to guide participants. The route is unmarked, requiring teams to rely on maps, GPS, and each other to navigate to the finish line.
The entry fee is £63 per person, or £89 with transport to the start line included. The cost covers GPS tracker hire, a finisher’s medal, and a limited-edition T-shirt. Teams can also opt for a navigation workshop before the event, where a nominated team leader and deputy can hone their orienteering skills.
For businesses signing up before midnight on May 14th, an exclusive bonus is on offer - a chance to win a seven-night stay at The Mew in Dartmouth, a charming one-bedroom studio apartment in the South Hams. The prize, donated by James Venmore of Coast and Country Cottages in memory of his mother, June, adds an extra incentive to get involved early.
In true adventure style, Dartmoor in a Day is both a physical and mental challenge. Awards will be presented to the fastest team and the highest fundraisers. Participants are encouraged to set fundraising goals and develop a strategy to make a significant impact for Hospiscare’s life-changing services.
Ellie Melmoth added: “It’ll be a race against the clock - and the other contenders! Fundraising together is a key element of this challenge. Gather your team, set targets, and create a strategy to make a difference while taking on this unforgettable adventure.
“We’re excited to welcome local businesses for a day of camaraderie, competition, and community spirit, all for a great cause.”
Hospiscare provides compassionate end-of-life care to more than 2,000 patients annually in Exeter, Central, and East Devon. Proceeds from Dartmoor in a Day will directly support the charity’s crucial services, ensuring patients receive the care they need when it matters most.
