Okehampton-based Moorland Fuels has achieved a significant milestone in its drive towards carbon neutrality, becoming a certified member of the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme (RFAS), a national initiative that recognises and verifies sustainable fuel providers across the UK.
The scheme, operated by the Zemo Partnership, endorses companies that meet the highest standards in renewable fuel sourcing and supply. With this accreditation, Moorland Fuels, one of the South West’s leading suppliers of renewable diesel (HVO), is now able to provide its customers with independently verified greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data, an increasingly vital requirement in commercial carbon reporting and green contract tendering.
Moorland Fuels has long championed renewable diesel, particularly hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), as a key part of the transition to low-carbon transport. HVO offers a cleaner-burning, drop-in alternative to fossil diesel, reducing net carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional fuels. It is increasingly being adopted by commercial fleets, agricultural businesses, and construction companies looking to meet strict sustainability targets.
Matthew Crockett, Managing Director of Moorland Fuels, said the company’s RFAS membership reflects its commitment to delivering trusted, sustainable energy solutions: “There is a clear and urgent need to address climate change. Joining the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme is a natural step on our journey to becoming a net zero company. It gives our customers the confidence that our renewable diesel supply chain undergoes the most rigorous scrutiny - from feedstock cultivation to final delivery.”
He added: “This isn’t just about compliance, it’s about doing the right thing for our customers, our communities, and our planet. In line with our mantra, ‘What matters to you, matters to us,’ we’re inviting businesses and individuals to partner with us in making meaningful strides toward a greener future.”
The Zemo Partnership, formerly the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP), is a government-backed organisation that works with industry to speed up the shift towards net-zero emissions in transport. Its RFAS scheme helps fuel users distinguish between suppliers who offer truly sustainable fuels and those who do not.
As an RFAS-certified member, Moorland Fuels is now part of a growing network of trusted suppliers committed to reducing emissions across the transport sector. Customers using Moorland’s HVO fuel will now be able to include certified GHG emissions savings in their official carbon accounting which gives a competitive edge when tendering for environmentally-conscious contracts.
Operating across Devon and Cornwall, Moorland Fuels supplies renewable diesel to a wide range of sectors, from agriculture and construction to logistics and public services. With their RFAS accreditation, the company is well-positioned to help local businesses transition away from fossil fuels in a way that is both environmentally responsible and operationally practical.
