Six men released on bail following modern slavery investigation near Tavistock as police continue enquiries and appeal for information

Six men arrested in connection with a modern-day slavery investigation near Tavistock have been released on bail while enquiries continue, police have confirmed.

The arrests followed a collision between a van and a lorry on Dolvin Road at around 7.30am on Monday 19 May.

Emergency services attended the scene, where no injuries were reported.

During the initial response, officers identified several occupants of the van as potential victims of exploitation and have since been providing them with specialist support and safeguarding.

A subsequent search at an address in the Gulworthy area uncovered additional potential victims, with police working alongside local authorities and partner agencies to ensure their protection.

Local Policing Sergeant Tom Ottley said: “We appreciate the activity yesterday may have caused some confusion and concern amongst the local community.”

He added that anyone with information or concerns related to the incident should contact police via 101 quoting incident number 50240216490.

The public is also urged to visit the national modern slavery website or call the national modern slavery helpline on 0800 0121 700 if they suspect any exploitation in their area.
