Free weekly mental health support group for men over 18 now running every Monday evening in Okehampton

Okehampton men's support group offers vital lifeline

Members of ANDYSMANCLUB Okehampton meet every Monday evening at Granite Way Cycle Hire Café to talk and support each other through life’s challenges

A peer-to-peer support group for men in Okehampton is providing a free and confidential space for those facing challenges in their lives.

ANDYSMANCLUB, a national mental health charity, runs weekly sessions for men aged 18 and over.

The Okehampton group, which launched on 25 November 2024, meets every Monday at 7pm at the Granite Way Cycle Hire Café, excluding bank holidays.

No booking or registration is required, and the sessions are free to attend.

The organisation was founded following the death by suicide of Andy Roberts.

Andy had shown no outward signs of suicidal thoughts, and in the wake of his death, his brother-in-law, Luke Ambler, and mother, Elaine Roberts, set up ANDYSMANCLUB to offer men a safe space to talk.

The Okehampton branch was the tenth to open in Devon.

Over its first six months, it has built strong links with the local community and is supported by its venue and local organisations.

The group is led by Simon Chudley, with a team of five facilitators helping to run the sessions.

ANDYSMANCLUB’s aim is to reduce the stigma around men’s mental health and provide a setting where individuals feel able to speak openly about what they are experiencing.

Men in the Okehampton area who are over 18 and looking for support are invited to attend. Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7pm start.
