Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that head coach Miron Muslić is in discussions with a club in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga.

In a statement released on Wednesday evening (May 28), the League One side said they had “reluctantly allowed” Muslić to open talks after he expressed a desire to take up an opportunity that would bring him closer to family, following four years working away from home.

“Despite regular communication since the end of the season, and no mention of any issues, Miron has now made it clear that this opportunity provides him the chance to be closer to [his family],” the club said.

Muslić, who signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Argyle in January 2025, departs just four months into the role.

The club expressed frustration, having already made plans for next season including backroom appointments and early transfer activity, which they say were designed to support Muslić’s long-term vision.

“We are frustrated by this decision,” the statement added, citing “repeated verbal promises” from Muslić that he was committed to the club and its ambitions to return to the Championship.

On 10 January 2025, Muslić signed a three-and-a-half-year contract to become head coach of then-Championship side Plymouth Argyle.

His arrival followed a period out of the game after he was dismissed as manager of Belgian side Cercle Brugge on 2 December 2024.

Fan reaction online has been largely critical, with many supporters expressing disappointment at the timing of the departure and questioning the coach’s loyalty.

One supporter wrote that Muslić had shown “no loyalty” after previously stating his commitment to the club.

Others, however, acknowledged the personal circumstances behind his decision, with some describing the chance to return to Germany as understandable.

The club has said it will make no further comment at this stage.
