Residents of Tavistock’s Torlands and Greenlands Estate braved heavy rain on Thursday 12 June to take part in the area's first "Skip and Tidy Day".
Organised bywith housing provider LiveWest, the event aimed to help residents dispose of unwanted household items and refresh the estate.
Despite the wet weather, council teams went door-to-door to assist those unable to carry bulky waste to the skips. One resident, unable to remove an old washing machine on her own, welcomed the help, saying it gave her "much-needed space back".
Two free skips and an FCC waste vehicle were on hand to collect unwanted items from gardens and pathways.
Council Leader Cllr Mandy Ewings and Cllr Jeff Moody attended the event, along with staff from the Environmental Health, Localities, and Community Development teams.
In addition to the clean-up effort, officers spoke to residents about local support services, including cost-of-living assistance and home heating advice.
A spokesperson for the council said events like these are intended to not only tidy neighbourhoods but also build community spirit and improve local safety.
