MED Theatre launches dynamic summer events for all ages in Moretonhampstead

Local arts charity MED Theatre is rolling out an exciting line-up of events this summer, inviting both young people and adults to get creative, explore Dartmoor-inspired themes, and connect with community through theatre, art, and storytelling.

Young People Take the Stage: "A Play in 3 Days!"

Young aspiring actors and theatre-makers aged 8–16 are being offered a chance to create and perform a brand-new play in just three days this August. Led by experienced facilitators Abby and Jonny from MED Theatre, the immersive summer school will run at Moreton Parish Hall and promises a fast-paced, fun-filled journey through acting, writing, and performance.

Inspired by the wild landscapes of Dartmoor and the energy of well-known musicals, the intensive will culminate in a performance for family and friends on the final afternoon.

Dates:

• Monday 4th August, 10am–2pm

• Tuesday 5th August, 10am–2pm

• Wednesday 6th August, 10am–5pm (Performance at 5pm)

Cost: Pay-what-you-can scale – £75 / £85 / £95

Adults Invited to Create, Connect and Improvise

MED Theatre isn’t just for the young - this July, adults are also invited to take part in two unique sessions at the theatre’s new studio space above the Hippo café in Moretonhampstead.

Improvisation Taster – Play Without Pressure

If you've ever been curious about theatre but never set foot on a stage, MED Theatre’s Improvisation Taster Session on Monday 21st July (6.30 - 8.30pm) might be just the opportunity. Facilitated by Lucy Smart, the playful workshop encourages adults to let go of expectations and explore “not trying” - a freeing, spontaneous approach to performance.

Suggested donation: £5–10 (but not essential)

No drama experience is required, just a willingness to have fun.

Founded in 1980, MED Theatre is a community-based organisation known for its original productions and creative projects inspired by Dartmoor’s rich history and ecology. With roots in environmental theatre, the charity continues to nurture local talent, celebrate rural life, and bring communities together through creative expression.
