Chagford pub hosts darts marathon to hit 100,000 points for Macmillan Cancer Support

Aiming high for a great cause, The Ring O’ Bells pub in Chagford will host an ambitious Darts Marathon on Sunday, 17th August, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kicking off at midday, the community-led challenge invites players to help reach an extraordinary total of 100,000 darts points scored in just one day. For a small fee of £2, anyone can join in, throw a few darts, and contribute to the fundraising tally. A raffle with generous prizes will also be held, adding an extra level of excitement to the day’s events. Currently, prizes include two tickets to an Exeter Chiefs rugby match, a voucher from local butcher Michael Howard, a free dog walk and vouchers for local eateries.

The Ring O’ Bells, affectionately known as "The Ringers," is a centuries-old pub located in the heart of Chagford. Renowned for its warm community atmosphere and lively events, the pub has long been a gathering point for locals and visitors alike. This latest event continues its tradition of charitable community spirit.

The darts challenge is being held in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, one of the UK’s leading charities offering physical, financial, and emotional support to people affected by cancer. According to Macmillan:

  • More than 3 million people are currently living with cancer in the UK — a figure expected to rise to 4 million by 2030.

  • Macmillan provided support to over 2.5 million people in 2023 through their information services, online community, and specialist nurses.

  • The charity relies heavily on public donations to fund 98% of its work, including its Macmillan nurses, helplines, and grant schemes for cancer patients.

The Darts Marathon at The Ringers aims not only to raise funds but also awareness for the ongoing need to support individuals and families affected by cancer.

Organisers encourage everyone, experienced players and casual throwers alike, to come along, play a few rounds, and help inch closer to that 100,000-point goal. It’s a chance for the community to come together for a good cause, enjoy the atmosphere of one of Devon’s most welcoming pubs, and support a charity that makes a real difference.
