Sir Geoffrey at one of his surgeries
The first week of drop-in surgeries saw Sir Geoffrey travel through villages and market towns across Torridge, culminating in a session at Morrisons supermarket in Tavistock on Friday afternoon.
While he regularly holds advice surgeries throughout the year, Sir Geoffrey uses the summer Parliamentary recess to conduct a more extensive schedule, meeting residents in informal settings across the constituency.
“We have got off to a good start to my summer surgery programme, traversing from village to village and hearing directly from residents about the issues that matter most to them,” Sir Geoffrey said. “Concluding the first week at Morrisons in Tavistock was particularly rewarding, providing an opportunity to discuss both national matters and specific local concerns.”
“These included the withdrawal of the ambulance co-responder scheme by the South Western Ambulance Trust, as well as the deeply unwelcome alterations to bus routes and fares between Tavistock and Plymouth by Stagecoach — changes that have prompted me to seek an urgent meeting with the company’s Managing Director.”
The summer surgery programme is a longstanding initiative by the MP to better understand the challenges and concerns of his constituents, particularly in rural and more remote communities.
“My summer surgeries are vital to my role as a Member of Parliament. They offer valuable insight into the views and experiences of constituents, often on sensitive or uniquely local issues,” he added.
The Tavistock session concludes the first of several weeks of outreach this summer. Further times and locations for upcoming surgeries will be announced in due course, with Sir Geoffrey encouraging more residents to attend.
