The recently refurbished Central Café, at 11 New St, Moretonhampstead, will host artist Lucy Patrick's latest work which explores the question of what we can learn about peace from wild flowers and the Dartmoor landscape.
Lucy has been a practicing artist since graduating, with First Class Honours, from Exeter College of Art and Design in 1995. She is interested in producing experimental, playful works that engage with the theme of how humans interact with the natural environment. She often produces pieces that are ephemeral or bio-degradable and which viewers can interact with. She has won awards in, and has worked on, many community-based projects and has a strong belief in the positive role that art can play in connecting and bringing together people from all walks of life. Her work is not tied to one medium: painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, weaving, performance and film are all part of her artistic process.
“The people and environment around Moretonhampstead have provided me with the constant inspiration for my art practice over the last quarter of a century. In Wild Peace, I am asking the question of how the urgent, large issue of peace may be achieved in our world by focusing on the small wild flowers that surround us.”
Visitors are invited to come along to the comfortable Central Café, sip a coffee, consider what wild flowers can teach us about peace and take a little “piece of peace” home with them.
As each affordably-priced artwork is sold and given a new home, previously hidden messages about peace are revealed, much like an Advent calendar, bringing a living and evolving element to the exhibition.
To open the exhibition, Lucy is holding a seed ball making workshop in Central Cafe, on 2nd November from 10.30am to 12.30pm. You can also design and take home your own seed packets. Children can attend for free with an adult paying £5 – all money raised goes to communities in crisis, supported by the Disasters Emergency Committee.
Purchased artworks will also support the work of the Disasters Emergency Committee. Lucy's work can be seen (and purchased) from 2nd -22nd November 2025.
