A community theatre company based in Moretonhampstead is offering a range of creative opportunities this year, with activities designed for children, young people and adults across the Dartmoor area.
MED Theatre has announced a programme of drama days, intergenerational workshops and a long-term youth performance project, all taking place at its studio in the town.
Kicking off the programme are Easter holiday drama days for children aged five to 12. The sessions will feature drama games and performance activities inspired by Dartmoor and its stories.
Two sessions are planned, with a day for five to eight-year-olds on Thursday, April 16, followed by a session for eight to 12-year-olds on Friday, April 17. Both will run from 10am to 2pm. Costs operate on a sliding scale of £25, £30 or £35, with bursary places available to support access.
Later in the spring, the company will host a new intergenerational “Play-in-a-Week” project during the May half term, running from May 26 to 31. Open to anyone aged eight and above, the initiative will bring together participants of all ages to collaboratively create a new piece of theatre over the course of a week. Organisers say no prior experience is required, and flexible participation options will be available.
For teenagers, MED Theatre is also launching a longer-term creative project as part of the International Agatha Christie Festival. Young people aged 12 to 19 are invited to take part in the “Playwriting, Peril and Performance Project”, working as performers, writers, directors and creators to develop an original murder mystery production.
The group will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from April through to December, with the finished production set to be staged in Torbay later in the year. Bursary places are also available for this project.
MED Theatre, known for its focus on community-led performance and storytelling rooted in Dartmoor’s landscape and heritage, aims to make theatre accessible to all ages and backgrounds.
