Plans for a new controversial farm shop development and ancillary café in an area north of the A30 at Whiddon Down have been put forward to West Devon Borough Council.

The re-application has been put forward by Jack Mann. The original application was made by Vivian Bennett of VB Farms Retail Limited but was withdrawn after local objection.

Mr Bennett did not attend a public meeting recently at which fifty members of the public attended with very few supporting Mr Bennett’s application. The new application by Jack Mann of J W Mann Ltd has removed one building from the original plans. If the plan is approved the farm shop would employ up to ten people from the local area and use local produce.

It is understood that there has been some thought of including an area for a landing site for Devon Air Ambulance close to the junction of the A30 and Whiddon Down.
