The Dartmoor Hill Farm Project is working with The Prince’s Countryside Fund to deliver ‘Farm for the Future’ in this area, following on from an initial round last year. Farm for the Future, a free series of business, environment and one-to-one support, is open for farmers to sign up to across Dartmoor.

Farm for the Future will help farmers navigate the policy changes that will affect the future of their farm businesses and become more resilient. It will provide information and support so farmers can make informed decisions about the future of their farm business and discover opportunities, including with the Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes that may financially and practically benefit their farm. Every farmer who participates will become a member of The Prince’s Countryside Fund’s Farm Resilience Network, which provides a bank of resources and ongoing support.

Farm for the Future is funded by Defra’s Future Farming Resilience Fund, and any tenant or owner-occupied farm currently in receipt of Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) in England is eligible to join, even if you have already participated in a programme run by The Prince’s Countryside Fund. New farmers are very welcome to join and those who took part last year are encouraged to continue participation with the specialised events or one-to-one consultations based on individual interests or need. The aim to be flexible in approach, reaching out especially for anyone who might prefer to discuss this on a one-to-one basis.

Workshops will be held from November into the new year. A series of events has been developed, designed for our local farmers, that aims to focus on key issues, with input from expert and industry speakers.

Farmers are encouraged to get in touch or share amongst friends and neighbours who may be interested. For more information and to express an interest in taking part, please contact Dartmoor Hill Farm Project at hfp@dartmoor.gov.uk.
