Central Devon MP Mel Stride joined Inspector Chris Conway, the new West Devon area lead for Devon and Cornwall Police, in North Tawton on Friday, 3rd March. The pair spoke about a number of policing-related issues while on the beat in the town.
A large part of Mr Stride’s constituency is now under Inspector Conway’s leadership, including Okehampton, Hatherleigh, North Tawton and Chagford. He brings to the role his specialisms as a tactical firearms commander and a public order and safety bronze commander.
Mr Stride said:
“We are very fortunate to have someone with Inspector Conway’s experience and skillset looking after a third of our constituency. I was particularly pleased to have the opportunity to ask about action on domestic abuse – a crime which affects every part of the country, no matter how safe an area may seem.”
Inspector Conway said:
“Devon and Cornwall Police have had a large intake of new recruits, who are currently going through intensive training. Seven of these will be allocated to West Devon which will boost the local police presence. It was very useful to meet Mel, brief him on this and respond to some of the issues he raised.”
