Farmers are encouraged to keep accurate records of fuel stocks to help identify any discrepancies quickly. If any suspicious activity is observed, police advise reporting it immediately.
In cases where unauthorized persons are found on farm premises, the police stress the importance of calling 999 to report a crime in progress.
If fuel theft is discovered after the fact, incidents should still be reported by contacting the police via 101 or through the Devon and Cornwall Police website.
