National Highways is set to start major resurfacing on the westbound A38 between Ivybridge and Marsh Mills in Plymouth from tonight (30 June).
The work will be carried out in three phases over the coming weeks and into August, with closures taking place overnight between Monday and Friday.
Closures will take place between 8pm and 6am.
The aim is to maintain and improve safety along the route while reducing the likelihood of unplanned closures in the future.

During daytime and at weekends, including the August Bank Holiday, the road will remain open as usual.
Drivers should expect signed diversions while sections of the westbound carriageway and slip roads are closed overnight.
Phase one involves closures on the westbound A38 between Smithaleigh and Voss Farm from 30 June to 2 July and on 9 July. A convoy system will be in place during some slip road closures, with traffic escorted past work areas at reduced speed.
Phase two will see westbound closures between Wrangaton and Ivybridge from 9 to 21 July.
Phase three covers overnight closures from Deep Lane to Marsh Mills in Plymouth between 28 July and 16 August, and again from 28 to 29 August.
National Highways advises that some slip road closures may impact heavy goods vehicles, which may face restrictions on re-entering the A38 until early morning.
Closures are subject to change at short notice.
Drivers are encouraged to check National Highways’ website and live travel information on the Traffic England website for the latest updates.
