Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire on the first floor of a house on Arundell Road in North Tawton at around 2:40am on 10 July.
Six fire appliances attended the scene, and firefighters used hose reel jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

The first floor of the property was severely damaged by fire, while the ground floor suffered significant damage from heat, smoke, and water. Neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
A casualty was found on the first floor and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were alerted to the incident by fire crews at approximately 4:40am on Thursday 10 July. The person has been identified as a 44-year-old woman. Her next of kin have been informed, but formal identification is yet to take place.
Officers say the cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
A police scene guard was initially put in place but has since been lifted.
