The A30 is closed in both directions near Exeter Airport due to a vehicle fire this afternoon (Tuesday July 15).

The incident is affecting the stretch between the Exeter Airport turn off (Clyst Honiton) and the B3174 at Daisy Mount Cross (Aller Grove), with traffic being diverted.

There is slow-moving traffic in both directions and drivers are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

Smoke is reported to be blowing across the road, adding to delays.

Sabrina Morrison told The Moorlander: "Eastbound traffic is moving again, but westbound is still at a stand still. We have been sat here for over an hour and still waiting to be let through."

3.30pm: Devon and Cornwall Police told The Moorlander: "We were called at around 2.30pm today, Tuesday 15 July, to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars, one of which caught fire, on the westbound carriageway of the A30 near Clyst Honiton.

"There are currently no reports of any injuries."

"The road was closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the scene."

"The eastbound carriageway has since been reopened but the westbound remains closed."

4.09pm: Devon and Somerset Fire Service told The Moorlander: "We were called by police at 2.30pm to a vehicle on fire under the flyover between the airport and Daisy Mount following a two-vehicle road traffic collision. We sent two appliances, and the vehicle was well alight on our arrival. Crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was destroyed and the road under the vehicle was also damaged. No reports of injuries.
