Police officers have teamed up with Dartmoor Rangers in a joint effort to crack down on speeding, dangerous driving, and anti-social behaviour across Dartmoor.
The initiative, launched in response to concerns from local residents and visitors, saw officers carry out hotspot checks across the moor, focusing on areas where community issues such as speeding and reckless driving have been reported.
During the operation, police engaged with motorists, offered road safety advice, and took enforcement action where necessary.

In addition to targeting road safety, the police supported Dartmoor Rangers in tackling wider anti-social issues, including littering, fly-tipping, livestock worrying and the careless use of disposable barbecues and open fires, all of which pose a threat to the environment, wildlife and public safety.
Police Constable Eustice said: “It was a privilege to work alongside the Dartmoor Rangers during this operation. By combining our efforts and expertise, we’ve been able to engage directly with the public, promote safety, and help protect one of our region’s most cherished spaces. This is partnership policing at its best.”
He added: “Dartmoor is deeply valued by the people of Devon and enjoyed by millions of visitors each year. Ensuring it remains safe, clean, and respected is a shared responsibility, and one we all take pride in. Whether you’re walking, riding, or driving, please help us to ‘Respect the Moor’. Road safety and responsible behaviour protect this iconic landscape for everyone, now and into the future.”
The Dartmoor Rangers praised the collaboration and highlighted the importance of working together to keep the moor safe.
A spokesperson for Dartmoor National Park Rangers said: “We value the support of Devon & Cornwall Police and the opportunity to work side by side to protect the beauty and safety of Dartmoor.
“Through the Dartmoor Rural Crime Initiative - a joint effort with Devon & Cornwall Police, Dartmoor National Park Authority, and other key partners – we’re tackling rural crime head-on. By carrying out targeted actions like hotspot checks, we’re raising awareness and actively working to reduce incidents and broader anti-social behaviour on the moor.”
The campaign comes as the summer holiday season brings more visitors to Dartmoor, with police and partners reminding people to be responsible and considerate of others and the environment.
Devon & Cornwall Police are also working with Vision Zero South West, a road safety partnership aiming to reduce and eliminate fatal incidents on the region’s roads.
The initiative focuses on educating drivers about the ‘Fatal Five’, the five leading causes of serious and fatal road collisions: speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, mobile phone use or distractions, drink or drug driving, and driving while unfit through poor health or fatigue.
Motorists are also reminded to give plenty of space to cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders when passing.
