Wales & West Utilities is carrying out a £305,000 project to upgrade gas pipes in the Exeter Road area of Okehampton.

The company says the work is essential to keep gas flowing safely to homes and businesses for years to come.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has been working with Devon County Council to plan the project.

A series of road closures and traffic measures are in place to allow the work to continue safely.

Rolling two and three-way traffic lights are currently in place on Exeter Road until 15 September.

From 15 September to 6 October, Exeter Road will be closed between Limeshayes Road and Balmoral Crescent.

Barton Road will be closed from 3 to 23 November, while Victoria Street and Wonnacotts Road will see closures between 24 and 29 November.

A closure on East Street will follow in January 2026.

Roxanne Whittaker, who is managing the project for Wales & West Utilities, said:

“We are progressing well with our project and have been working with the Council to plan these essential works, and signage will be used to alert motorists to the traffic management. We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.”

She added that a team of gas engineers will be on site throughout the project to make sure work is completed “as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
