The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Saturday (4th October) with Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West affected.

Winds will come from the west and south-west with gusts of 45 to 55 miles per hour possible in many places.

Exposed coasts could see gusts of 60 to 65 miles per hour with hills also expected to be very windy.

The warning is classed as yellow, meaning there is a medium chance of disruption, but the overall impact is likely to be low and winds are expected to ease later on Saturday

Strong winds could cause delays to buses and trains and some journeys could take longer than normal.

A Met Office representative told the Moorlander: “While Storm Amy’s more severe impacts will be felt in Scotland and Northern Ireland, Devon will see some strong winds, which has resulted in a Yellow wind warning being issued for much of Saturday.

“For Devon, the strongest winds are likely on Saturday morning, with exposed coasts possibly seeing gusts of around 50mph. Winds will gradually ease through the day as Storm Amy pulls away to the northeast of Scotland. There could also be some blustery showers for some.”

The Met Office’s storm advice informs people to plan ahead, check road conditions if you are driving and check bus and train timetables if travelling on public transport.

“Coastal roads and sea fronts may be hit by spray and large waves with power cuts also possible. High-sided vehicles could face delays on exposed roads and bridges and delays are also possible for road, rail, air and ferry travel.

“Stay safe if you are near the coast. Large waves can be dangerous, even from the shore.

Take care near cliffs, keep dogs on a lead and in an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

The alert was issued at 10.06am on Friday 3 October 2025.

Areas affected include Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Isles of Scilly, Plymouth, Somerset, Torbay and Wiltshire, as well as other parts of the South West.
